Our Founding Story

Built by Clinicians, for Clinicians

MediPulse AI was founded in 2019 by a group of former NHS clinicians and leading AI researchers who shared a frustration: the gap between what technology could achieve and what was actually available in NHS hospitals was costing lives.

Our co-founders — including Dr. Sarah Mitchell, former NHS Chief Medical Officer, and Prof. James Chen, AI researcher from UCL — met at a health informatics conference in Manchester. They saw that the data existed, the algorithms existed, but the trusted, compliant, clinician-friendly products did not.

Headquartered at 10 St. Ann Street, Manchester, MediPulse AI has grown from a five-person startup to a team of over 200 clinicians, engineers, data scientists, and compliance experts — all united by a passion for transforming NHS healthcare.

MediPulse AI Founded
Founded in Manchester by Dr. Sarah Mitchell and Prof. James Chen. Initial seed funding of £2.5M secured to build the core platform.
2020
First NHS Trust Partnership
Signed our first formal NHS partnership with Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. Launched pilot of Clinical AI Decision Support across two wards.
2021
CE Class IIb Medical Device Marking
Achieved CE Class IIb Medical Device certification and MHRA registration for our Clinical Decision Support Suite — a milestone that validated our safety-first approach.
2022
NHS DSP Toolkit Full Compliance
Achieved full compliance with all 10 standards of the NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit, plus ISO 27001 certification for information security.
2023
Series B Funding — £45M
Secured £45M Series B investment led by a consortium of healthcare-focused VCs, enabling significant R&D expansion and international planning.
2024
50th NHS Trust Partnership
Celebrated our 50th NHS Trust partner — Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust — and won the HSJ Award for Digital Innovation of the Year.
2025
Royal College of Radiologists Partnership
Formed a landmark partnership with the Royal College of Radiologists to co-develop and validate AI imaging tools for NHS diagnostic pathways.
2026
International Expansion
Launched international expansion into Canada, Australia, and Ireland — bringing NHS-quality clinical AI to healthcare systems worldwide.
